Rift Riff Overview

Rift Riff is a tower defense game that stands out for its deep strategy and player-friendly design. The game challenges you to jump into rifts, battle monsters, and loot their world while defending your Extractor—the central tower. Strategy plays a key role, as you must carefully select which towers to bring into each rift and adapt to different monster behaviors.

Some enemies charge straight for your Extractor, while others attack any nearby towers. Before and during each wave, you gather juice the resource used to build and upgrade towers—and place them on fixed spots across the map. Successfully fending off waves earns you prisms, which unlock new rifts, towers, companions, and upgrades.
What makes Rift Riff especially welcoming is its forgiving mechanics. If you’re short on juice, you can schedule a tower to build later. Built the wrong one? Get a full refund. Lose a tower? It respawns for free after the wave. Even if your Extractor falls, you only need to redo the last wave instead of starting over. And if the challenge feels too steep, you can take a break to pick flowers and earn some extra juice to help turn the tide.

Rift Riff offers a rich experience with around 10–15 hours of gameplay, featuring 15 unique worlds, each with at least two scenarios to conquer. You’ll have 14 different tower types at your disposal, each with six powerful upgrades to enhance their abilities.
The monsters you face come in 25 varieties, each with distinct behaviors to keep you on your toes. Along the way six companions will join your cause, providing extra support for you and your towers. For those seeking an extra challenge, there are 30 tough trials to test your skills.

Rift Riff is the creation of game designer Adriaan de Jongh (known for the indie favorite Hidden Folks), graphic designer Sim Kaart enemy wave designer Professional Panda composer and sound designer Matthijs Koster and programmer Franz LaZerte. The game was built using the open source Godot engine.
